Lewis Black was in town the last few weeks to help with the comedy festival and work on his new book. I had a chance to have dinner with him and then interviewed him in our studio. Lewis is smart, funny, and he loves Carolina, so we had a good time.
He says two things in the video that really stand out for me. The first is when I ask him how to be a standup comedian, he says it’s all about learning from failures. He then goes on to talk about how hard it is to make it in entertainment, and there are a lot of great lessons there for our students looking to create their own opportunities.
The second is when he talks about coming to Carolina and figuring out that he could major in playwriting. We didn’t know we had that major, but we said it was OK. This is a place where that can happen, and when it does, we get a famous comedian and writer.
And I like Ye Olde Waffle Shoppe, too.
